Hello everyone! You may or may not know that I’m currently working on a novel! I’ve been wanting to share my plans with you for a while now and finally decided to do it today.
Also, for your information there will be snippets. Lots of them. Hey you cheater, you looked at the title! XD Sorry not sorry for all of you writers who don’t enjoy reading a fellow writers’ snippets! XD
Ahem, let’s get started.
(I will be writing a little commentary in italic throughout this post, snippets will be block quoted throughout the post) One last thing, the snippets are all from chapters 1, 2 and parts of 3, be prepared for more. XD
“Ha, lucky you! Straight back from camp and you’re already being pressured, new trainer and all!” Leah said, laughing in mock appreciation.
-Synopsis-
14-year-old Melanie Willard’s has just returned from a summer of riding horses, aspiring to become a famous competitor. But she comes home to an unwelcome surprise, her parents have hired a new trainer, and they immediately begin to pressure her to train more. Melanie gets angry and pushes her horse to hard, resulting in injury for the horse and facing her parents’ and trainer’s frustration. When her mom loses her job and ruins Melanie’s plan of moving up to a new barn. Her friends dump her because she can’t move up. But when a special vet comes to the barn to help the horse recover, Melanie realizes how wrong and proud she’s been and begins to discover what a true friend really is.
Eek, I’m so excited! It took me weeks to come up with this!! XD
“Mom a new what? What did you do?” Melanie asked, her eyebrows furrowed in frustration.
-Characters-
So I’m not including all of the characters (because then this would get super duper long) but I will include some of the most important ones! 🙂
Melanie:
Name: Melanie Willard.
Role in Story: Protagonist.
Physical Description: Tall, slender, wavy blond hair.
Age: 14.
5 facts about her:
- She is very popular and in the most popular group at school.
- She is extremely proud.
- She loves her horse Prince.
- She likes to do what she wants. (who doesn’t)
- She wants to become a famous horse jumper.
I have an entire 3 page questionnaire saved in a Word Document, but I didn’t think that you’d want to read it…….
Melanie quickly ran to get a the blanket, from Prince’s stall, when she felt a hand on her shoulder.
PT Vet:
Name: Susan.
Role in Story: The vet that helps Melanie’s horse recover.
Physical Description: Tall, long light brown hair.
Age: 40 something.
5 facts about her:
- She loves animals.
- She is Christian and tries to minister to her clients.
- She is a vegetarian.
- She loves children.
- She believes in second chances.
“Yeah well, it’s all my mom’s fault she’s the…..” Jared gave Melanie an awkward look, and that was when Melanie realized who she was talking to.
Mom:
Name: Nicki.
Role in Story: Melanie’s mom.
Physical Description: Wavy blond hair, blue eyes, very pretty.
Age: 35
5 Facts about her:
- She is very pretty.
- She is very wealthy.
- She likes watching her daughter win competitions.
- She is afraid she will lose her job.
- She likes cooking and baking in her free time.
Audrey’s face brightened at the prospect of Melanie actually being interested in her training.
Maybe I’ll do more Characters another time, but for now, I’m just doing 3 🙂
-Outlining-
So yeah, I did outline my novel, and I’m not sure if the way I did it was even considered outlining or if it even looks like an outline. BUT I CALL WHAT I DID OUTLINING. Ahem, so yes, here is just a peek at my out line.
The outline for Chapter 8:
{Chapter 8} Realization.
• The next morning Melanie realizes how proud and wrong she has been, with pretty much everyone.
• She doesn’t want to apologize but she knows she must. (especially to her parents, Jared, and her trainer)
• Melanie decides to apologize to Rebecca first because she thinks Rebecca will be most forgiving.
• The next day Melanie apologizes to Rebecca for being snooty, proud and a know-it-all.
It’s kind of short but it is SUPER helpful when I’m writing and I’ve basically done these for each chapter!
Nicki’s eyes narrowed as her daughter said this, and she couldn’t believe how rude Melanie was being.
-Chapters-
Here are the chapter names. (they could change) 😉
Chapters:
1. News.
2. Frustration and Anger.
3. All Alone.
4. New Beginnings.
5. Friends.
6. Arrival.
7. The Past, The Present, The Future.
8. Realization.
9. Indecisive.
10. Decided.
11. Forgiven
12. Is he really better?
13. Finally!
14. Stupidity.
15. Already?
16. The Party.
Epilogue.
“If Melanie acted like this when something unexpected happened, who knew what she would do if there was a random inspection.” Nicki thought, with a worried expression on her face.
So how did you like that? Would you like to see Part 2 soon?
I tried to make it not to long, so you wouldn’t get super bored! 🙂
Have a wonderful day!

This is so exciting! I like the idea of outlining, but I’ve been working on the novel that I started in 2012. I participated in my first-ever Camp NaNoWriMo in April, and I exceeded my goal. I wrote 20,256 words in 30 days! I’m so thrilled.

Awesome!!!! I can’t wait for more!!! Also, there were a few grammar errors, (sorry, I’m SUPER nit-picky like that. My friends always send me their stories to edit because I’m such a grammer nut XD) BUT THE PLOT WAS AMAZING!!!!!! I ABSOLUTELY ADORE HORSE STORIES!!!

Wow, that is SO neat! I’m super happy for you and I really really would like to read this someday!
You are a really planned writer, haha! Since NaNo I’ve been wanting to work on my novel or take up another project, but I seriously have zero motivation. I owe NaNo for getting me to work at least once a year. 😂

Haha, yes it is definetly hard to stay motivated, especially because I’m a total perfectionist and can’t (easily) write at crazy speeds! Good luck with your novel!! 🙂

Your novel sounds really good, Hannah! I’d definitely wanna read it – will you be getting beta-readers in the future? Ah, I love all of your characters too – I especially like how Melanie is this really cliche popular girl in the beginning but then she learns to grow out of it.

Thank you! Hmm, I’m not completely sure about beta reading but if I do decide to I’ll definitely let you know! 🙂

Ooh, your novel sounds great! (Let me know if you need beta readers!!) I’m still working on mine and just starting to make more progress since Camp NaNo (which is terrible XD). Currently it is just over 40,000 words. (but needs a lot of editing XDDD)
