My Top 8 Favorite Healthy Snack Ideas

Hey friends! Over the past couple months I’ve definitely be on a health kick. I’ve been really into making (& eating 😉) healthy foods and finding healthier substitutes for popular foods. I know snacking can sometimes be looked down on in healthy eating communities, but if I’m hungry I’d definitely prefer to eat a healthy snack than cave and eat a bunch of junk food. Anyways, I’ve been experimenting a lot with healthy snacks recently and so I thought I’d share a couple of my favorites here with you guys!

Also, I know everyone has a different idea of what healthy is and isn’t, for me I like to eat whole foods as much as possible. I also try to avoid refined sugar (and just a lot of sugar in general), white flour, dairy other than yogurt and processed foods whenever I can. I’ve definitely noticed that I feel much better when I avoid those things. All of these snacks pretty much fit into that category of healthy, but most of them would work with a lot of different diets and healthy eating plans. 🙂

Greek Yogurt & Fruit. I love having some fruit with a little Greek yogurt as a nice snack! You can definitely sweeten the yogurt a little if you’d like, but I personally prefer to leave the yogurt plain and let the natural sweetness of the fruit shine through. My favorites for dipping are apples, tangerines, strawberries, raspberries and grapefruit!

Oui Yogurts. These do have some cane sugar in them, so I don’t eat them everyday but they are a fun treat when I do! My favorites are the peach, lemon and strawberry – although all the flavors are so good! I usually get mine locally from Walmart or Kroger.

Banana Oat Breakfast Cookies. I love how simple these are to make and how healthy they are! No processed ingredients whatsoever! Just banana & oatmeal! These don’t exactly taste like cookies – they’re more like baked oatmeal, but they’re still a great snack, breakfast or dessert! I try to avoid refined sugar, so I usually just add banana and oats, but you can totally add chocolate chips if you’d like! Some other great ideas to add would be nuts, coconut, dried fruit, or a drizzle of dark chocolate after baking. Here is my favorite recipe to use: 3 Ingredient Banana Oat Cookies and here is another one I found that I haven’t tried yet, but that I’m guessing would taste more like actual cookies: Healthy Banana Oat Cookies.

Vanilla Almond Overnight Oats. I know these are typically a breakfast food, but I love snacking on them throughout the afternoon. For mine, I usually just add about 3 tablespoons Almond Milk, 3 tablespoons Greek Yogurt, 1 teaspoon maple syrup, 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract, 1/3-1/2 cup oatmeal and a sprinkle of sliced almonds on top. Then I’ll stick it in the refrigerator for 6-8 hrs. before eating.

Veggies! This one is a little obvious – but still so healthy and good! I love some good steamed broccoli (I’m looking at you microwave steam frozen broccoli 😉). Broccoli is just so good for you and steaming it brings out the natural sweetness in it so win win right!? I also love snacking on cut celery and peppers, maybe dipping them in a little hummus for some protein throughout the day!

Taos Bakes Bars. These are a little more processed, but still pretty healthy! I love them if I need a little chocolate kick with lots of protein involved! 😛 My favorite way to eat them is actually by warming them up for 5-10 seconds in the microwave (or, if you like in the oven, obviously for longer). The chocolate gets gooey and to me they taste like dessert rather than a health food snack. Here they are on Amazon.

Apples & Peanut Butter. This is kind of a classic “health food” snack, but it is nonetheless delicious and healthy! Make sure to get an all natural peanut butter (literally the only ingredient should be peanuts) or make your own. You could also try using almond butter, just again make sure it’s the natural kind.

Energy Balls. I remember when I was little my mom would make these when my friends would come over for the day, and we always called them “gooey balls.” These are still one of my favorite snacks and I love how easy and fast they come together. For mine, I usually add natural peanut butter, oats, maple syrup or honey, cinnamon, protein powder and vanilla. Here’s a great recipe for these!
