10 Tips For Naturally Clearer Skin

Hey guys! I hope you are well and are able to get outside and enjoy the nice weather! Over the past couple of months, I’ve really been working on trying do improve my skin naturally. I’ve found quite a few things that really have worked for me, and I’m super excited to share these things with you guys, in today’s post!

In no particular order, here are 10 things that I’ve done and that you can do to improve your skin.

1. Drink water. Ahh, water is absolutely just so important! I won’t get into all the details about why water is just so good for you, but if you’re having a hard time drinking water, try adding some cucumber or lemon. It’ll still have all the health benefits but it will have a little flavor as well!

2. Wash your face before & after workouts. Especially if you’re wearing makeup. I know, it’s easier not to but the combination of makeup (or dirt, excess oil, etc) will clog your pores tremendously. If you use an acne specific cleanser, I would use a more gentle one (this is one the I use) and save your acne one for at night and in the mornings.

3. Use moisturizer. I think that there is a HUGE misconception that moisturizer makes your skin oily. WRONG. If you don’t use moisturizer your skin will get flaky and dry and patchy. There are some moisturizers that make your skin super oily, but if you look, there are definitely some that don’t and still keep your skin hydrated. (this one is my absolute favorite, I’ve been using it for years!!)

4. Go makeup free. If you’re one of those people that literally doesn’t leave your house without makeup on, I feel you, I was there too. Over the past several months though, I’ve stopped wearing makeup except for some certain events and also when I just want to experiment & have fun. You wouldn’t believe how much this has helped my skin! Also, don’t ever sleep in makeup, just don’t, let’s talk about clogged pores…

5. Use an exfoliator. Exfoliating you skin should be one of the most important parts of your skincare routine. You can buy scrubs or use a chemical exfoliator. I used to do this Burt’s Bees acne scrub, but I’ve had more success with Glossier’s acid exfoliator. (I promise, I know using acid on your face might seem weird, but it’s actually much better than it sounds XD)

6. Keep your hands & hair off your face. My hair is cut in a way that it looks best down. I always put it up for workouts and sometimes in a messy bun/ponytail from time to time, but I’d much rather have it down. Since it’s down most of the day I usually put it up at night in a low messy bun, my skin has improved and my hair is a little bit curly in the morning, win = win.

Keeping your hands off your face, especially when you’re stressed/bored is sooo hard. Rather than touching your face, try propping up your arm on your head, this way you’re not getting any dirt/oils (or germs) on your face.

7. Do face masks. I know what you’re thinking, “I don’t have time to do face masks.” Well, me either. But for the past couple of months I’ve been doing some homemade bentonite clay + ACV ones overnight, and they have GREATLY improved my skin. It feels so much more refreshed and clean, and it looks brighter and clearer! I’ve kind of gotten into a 4 day routine where day 1 I do a full face mask, days 2 & 3 I do spot treatments (any areas that need it) and day 4 I give my skin a rest.

8. Get enough sleep. Ugh, this one is so hard, especially in the summer when it stays light out for so long at night! But if you can try to do this, your life will improve (no joke!!), when I get enough sleep I’m more productive, more energized and happy and my skin’s better!

9. Wash your pillow case & sheets at least once a week. This one kind of goes with the #8, guys, it’s seriously so important to do this! Sweat, oils and all the things build up on your sheets and pillow case, it’s honestly just kind of gross to even think about. Definitely make sure to wash those sheets!

10. Get some sun. Now I’m not suggesting that you go lay out in the sun for hours on end to try to improve your skin and this isn’t a proven method of improving your skin. (wow, that was a mouthful XD) But I personally have noticed that when I’m outside more, my skin seems to do better. It could be coincidence, but I’ve talked to some friends and they’ve said the same thing. Whatever you do, just don’t stay out too long and get super burnt. 😉

I hope these tips will be helpful for you guys, and if you have any things you do to improve your skin, I’d love to know! Just drop a comment below!

  1. Such a fantastic post!!! I love these tips and I’m sure they will help me because I’m been breaking out recently. I’m always touching my hair and face, it’s more of a nervous tick that anything else, but I really need to stop that habit😂

  2. This is a wonderful post! 😀 I have oily skin, so it’s hard for me to keep a clear complexion. Acne is SO aggravating!!! I’ll definitely try out these tips!

  3. Lovely post, Hannah! I notice you have had Glossier products in a couple of your photos– do you recommend them? The name sounds familiar to me, but I really know nothing about them, lol!

    1. Aww, thanks, Magaidh! I do really like (and use) quite a few of both their skincare and makeup products! I love how they promote a more natural and barely there makeup look, and I appreciate how they realize that skincare is so important! If you’re looking for 100% natural, I’d recommend Burt’s Bees, but Glossier does have a more natural approach and I find that their stuff does work better. (although really, it depends on the product 😉 ) I don’t agree with all of the things they promote that are a part of culture though, but they do make great skincare & makeup products! I hope that helps! 🙂

    2. Thank you! This is very helpful, haha!! I do prefer more natural products, but it’s not always a 100% must for me. My absolute favourite makeup company in the whole world is Besame Cosmetics. 😀

  4. Excellent post, Hannah! I honestly don’t really have a skincare routine… heh. I wash my face twice a day and often after getting super hot or sweaty, and… hmm, yeah, that’s pretty much it. XD I don’t use any products other than lotion, occasionally. I wonder if my skin would improve if I used moisturizer and stuff. It’s generally not that bad, but it could definitely be improved, of course. 😉
I have definitely noticed that my skin is a lot smoother and healthier when I go outside and get some sun. I don’t specifically exercise a lot, but I enjoy working in the garden and going on hay deliveries (even though they’re miserably hot in the summer), and I think the combination of fresh air, sun, and hard work makes a healthier person overall, including your skin. And yessss, the keeping your hands off your face is so important. Oops. XD

    1. Thank you so much, Allison! 🙂 Yeah, I often go back and forth whether a skincare routine is necessary or not, but honestly, I think it really depends on the person and their individual skin. For me, if I don’t have a skincare routine I get super dry skin and a ton of breakouts, so for me (at least at this point) having a skincare routine is essential. 😉 I don’t think that anybody has completely perfect skin, I suppose it’s just something you have to keep working on and improving. I agree! Hard work really is good for pretty much anybody! 🙂

  5. Lovely post, thanks for sharing!! I LOVE using Yes To Carrot’s night, moisturizing cream. You just wash your face before you go to bed, rub it on, go to bed and wah-lah! Your skin is bright and clear, the next morning. I really love it, because it’s not time consuming at all, and it works well.
Anyways, again, lovely post. Keep up the good work and have a great day. 🙂

    1. Ooh, I’ll have to look at that! I like the Yes To Carrot’s brand for lotion, but I’ve never tried any of their skincare products, I’ll check it out! 🙂
