How To Blog When You Don’t Feel Like It

Hey guys! Let’s admit it: We all have days when we just feel unmotivated, no matter what we do. Everyone has days when they don’t want to blog, don’t want to run, don’t want to sing, or don’t want to do whatever they do. It’s just a part of life. And it’s fine if your blog (or your running, singing or whatever you do) is just a hobby, but if you’re looking to turn your whatever you do into a business, you can’t just “quit” when you run out of inspiration. In today’s post I’ll be sharing my favorite ways to keep you’re inspiration flowing, even when you don’t feel “inspired”

Remember Your End Goal

I find this SUPER helpful when I’m not motivated to post. When I think of my end goal and how if I do work on this post, take these pictures, or design this graphic, I’ll be taking a step closer to my end goal. I really think that is helpful no matter what you’re doing.

Take A Break

Sometimes I just stare at my computer screen for hours wondering what I should write or how I should say something and basically get nothing done. Often I like to get up and take a little break. Maybe go outside for a few minutes, go hang out with a friend, get a drink. Just do something to distract myself for a little bit. Often, I’ll come back feeling motivated and wanting to post.

Go Through Your Camera Roll

Guys! This is so helpful! Often, when I’m looking for new blog post ideas I’ll go through my camera roll and see what I’ve been photographing recently, and use that to come up with something to post about.

Keep Some Posts In Your Back Pocket

There are some posts that you can easily fall back on when you’re out of inspiration. Posts like “10 Things You Probably Don’t Know About Me” or “My Current Wishlist” are all easy posts to post, when you don’t feel inspired to post something more complex.

Reduce Your Posting Schedule

Over time you may find that your schedule is busier than it once was. School started, you joined cross country, or you’re focusing on other things. Maybe it’s time to reduce your posting schedule. If you’re currently struggling to keep up with posting 2 or 3 times a week, maybe try for one great quality post once a week.

Schedule Posts Ahead

I’m currently about 2 weeks ahead in my posting schedule. As I write this it’s July 31, but you all won’t see it until August 16. I love scheduling my posts about 2 weeks ahead, because I feel like it’s just long enough that if something happens and I need to take a break, I have enough time to take a break. This also helps me create better quality posts, rather than cramming them in right before I publish.

And there you have it. Six tips for staying inspired even when you feel “uninspired” And guys, one thing that I’ve found so important in blogging is consistency. For example: My followers know that every Tuesday and Friday I post, and every Wednesday they get an email with a freebie.

I know that at first this might seem super overwhelming, but once you get into the habit of posting, and create a process, it’ll get so much easier!

  2. THANK YOU for this post! Too many people advise “don’t blog if you don’t feel like it” but if your blog isn’t simply a hobby, that’s just a quitter attitude. Some of my best blog posts have been made when I felt like doing them the least!

    1. YESSSS GIRL! I know, I see that and think, “Did any successful blogger just quit when things got hard? No, they kept going! So why on earth are they saying, “don’t blog if you don’t feel like it” if someone is trying to create a professional blog?” XD I know right!?

      By the way, what type of camera do you use? I have been relying on my iPod Touch to take photos, but I’m noticing that they often aren’t as clear as I would like. So, I’m now considering whether or not it would be wise to purchase a camera.

    2. Aww, sure thing! 🙂 I use a Canon Rebel T6 Entry Level. It works really well for photography, but doesn’t do video great. I’d say if you’re blogging as a hobby you can just continue to use your iPod Touch, but if you’re looking to grow your blog into a professional blog than I’d recommend upgrading to a higher quality camera. Looking back, my blog really began to grow when my photography improved, and I started using a camera. Definitely do some research and do what’s best for you and your blog! 😉

    1. Thank you so much! The theme I’m currently using doesn’t actually have a header image option, but I just used the logo section to upload a 979 by 245 pixel header and it worked fine. 🙂

  4. Great tips! Just curious… you mentioned cross country/running a couple times. Do you run cross country? Also, do you think you could maybe do a post sometime about how you increased traffic on your blog? I’m so happy to find another teen blogger like myself, and I am really enjoying your writing:)
