What Are Email Lists? + Subscribe To Mine

Hey friends! In my last post I mentioned that I was starting an email list, and well I finally got that done! I know when I first started I had tons of questions, and so if you are considering starting an email list or if you still have questions after starting one, I’ve got some answers!

Why Use An Email List When You Already Have WordPress Followers?

Believe me I asked this question once too. Like why? I mean I’ve already got this great, free WordPress follow thing and it’s like no work setting up. I’m sticking with it.

Well yes. WordPress is quite nice, especially when you’re a newbie and just getting started. But after you’ve been blogging for a while and want to start taking your blog to a more professional level, then it might be a good idea to start an email list. Why? Here are some benefits:

  • You can send personalized messages to your subscribers that you can’t send with the basic following. (such as birthday messages, or sneak peaks)
  • You get to customize how it looks and make it cohesive with the rest of your brand/blog. (which is like super important)
  • You can transfer this email list to another blog. (you can transfer the followers to though) Like if you decide to self-host then you still have all your email subscribers.
  • If you have a business you can send them coupons/sales/updates on new products. (please don’t send your subscribers a new email every time a new product comes out, that might get annoying. maybe just when a new collection/line comes out?)
  • And the last reason: It looks like really professional. Have you noticed something about all big blogs? THEY ALL HAVE SOME SORT OF EMAIL LIST. If you don’t believe me go check out some big blogs.

Isn’t Email Outdated? Everyone’s Promoting Everything On Social Media?

Have you ever noticed that when you sign up for almost anything on the web it requires your email? Even things like social media. So most people do have email! Another reason why having an email list is such a benefit is because it’s yours and you have total control over it. (well unless you own a social media platform that is) Who knows? Your forever relied upon Instagram could make your account visible to only 1 person forever. You don’t own your social media, but you do own your email list. You have full and total control over what content goes in and what content comes in.

Should I Just Send Emails To My List Of People? Or Is There Some Sort Of Service I Should Use?

In this area you have a few options. You can be like 2017 me and send out group emails to your email list. (cringes) Or you can be like 2018 me and use an actual service.

So if that was confusing. Use a service. The most popular/well known one is MailChimp and it’s super easy to use! Last Sunday night it only took me 3 hrs. to get my entire account set up and a default email finished. I didn’t have to take any courses or anything. I’m sure you could if you like doing that sort of thing, but if you’re like me and like to figure things out instead of learn them, then that works too.

Another great thing about MailChimp is that it’s free up until 1000 subscribers. And by that time, you should have a business and be making money.

So Should I Un-Follow You And Subscribe?

The nicest thing about this is that you can do both! You can receive all the bonus stuff and newsletters and get email notifications every time I post.

If you still like the idea of getting my posts in your WordPress.com Reader but don’t want so much mail, you can turn off email notifications or have them sent all at once.

Just go to your WordPress.com account My Profile > Notification Settings > Reader Subscriptions. This doesn’t manage your email list subscriptions though, they don’t have anything to do with WordPress. It just manages who you’re following.

So, hopefully I answered some of your questions, and now I have something exciting to announce. (that I sort of already announced. oh well.)

I’ve Started My Own Email List!

Yep that’s right! I’ll be sending out new emails each week with special surveys, blog/shop/life updates, coupons and sales for my shop, new collections, plans, sneak peaks and more! As a little gift for signing up I’m also giving away a free printable wall print (like the ones I sell) + a 15% discount* on any item in my shop! Exciting right?

Click-Click-Click-Click-Click

Note: The birthday option is optional. 😉 If you do sign up, it will just send you an email on your birthday. If you don’t sign up for that option, then nothing will happen. Or if you want to be f u n and not b o r i n g then make your b i r t h d a y  C h r i s t m a s ! XD

If you signed up – thank you so much! I hope you enjoy your discount and your free print! If you’re still considering it – you can unsubscribe at any time, or adjust your settings etc.

Also, if you’re interested, here’s my monthly email schedule!

Week 1: Crafts of all Seasons + SP&Co. Monthly Newsletter.

Week 2: New Products/New Collections.

Week 3: Photo Journal + Life Updates.

Week 4: Free stuff/coupons

*Note: Since I am currently hosting a grand opening sale on my shop for 25% off all items in the store the 15% is in addition to the grand opening sale which means that you could get 40% off your purchase until the current sale ends! This also goes for any and every other sale! (Also every Friday I’m putting out new products! 😀 )

Have a wonderful Wednesday guys!

P.S. I still don’t have Photoshop updated yet so excuse the lack of featured image.

P.S.S. Also, I updated my About page and I’d love if you checked it out!

  1. That’s so cool Hannah! I use MailChimp for my church’s emails, it’s neat!
But then they had to make a Facebook Chat. *glowers* XD

  2. This post was so helpful and clearly written, Hannah! I’ve thought about making an email list but never really thought they were worth it, and also I feel like I spend too much time on my posts to spend more on my email list, heh heh. XD XD But you pointed out some really good reasons to have one, so maybe I’ll do that one of these days! Also I subscribed to yours! 😉
